Our discipline was founded in 1996, and granted the right to confer the master's degree of ‘Literature & New Media’ in 2013 and ‘Journalism & Communication’ in 2018. Our postgraduate programme is dedicated to cultivating practical talents with a socialist mindset and a modern skillset for state organs, publicity departments of public institutions, local media, and advertising agencies. The programme relies on the School of Journalism & Communication, which was co-founded by Ningbo University, the Publicity Department of Ningbo Municipal Committee, the Ningbo Education Bureau, Ningbo Media Group, and Ningbo Daily Group, and the research platform of the Institute of Modern Communication Research to nurture postgraduates in ‘Journalism & Communication’. The programme consists of three research domains: (1) Integrated Media Journalism & Big Data Communication; (2) Advertising & Brand Communication; (3) Image Communication & Visual Culture .
The programme has 4 professors, 5 associate professors and 12 lecturers with doctoral degrees. Prof. Zhang Binning, as the head of programme, has presided over one general project of the National Social Science Foundation of China (NSSF), participated in one major NSFC project as the deputy editor-in-chief in one of the sub-projects, and published more than 40 academic papers and three monographs. Prof. Ning Hailin, the person in charge of the research domain ‘Image Communication & Visual Culture’, is a Young and Middle-Aged Academic Leader in Zhejiang Universities and vice president of Zhejiang Communication Association. He mainly concentrates on the theory and application of visual communication, having presided over three NSFC projects and one major project of the Provincial Social Science Foundation of China (PSSF), and published more than 50 papers. Prof. Li Le, the person in charge of the research domain ‘Integrated Media News & Big Data Communication’, is a Leading and Top-Notch Talent Cultivation Target in Ningbo. He is currently presiding over one NSSF project, two projects of China Postdoctoral Foundation, has previously presided over two PSSF projects, and published one monograph and more than 30 papers. Associate Professor Pang Juai, the person in charge of the research domain ‘Advertising & Brand Communication’, has presided over two PSSF projects, published a monograph titled ‘Intercultural Advertising and the Change of Citizen Culture’, and obtained the first prize of the Youth Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award of the Social Science Federation of Zhejiang Province, and the second prize of the Philosophical and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award of Ningbo Municipality. In addition, the programme has appointed experts from CCTV, Ningbo Media Group and Ningbo Daily Group as industry tutors.
In recent years, members of the programme have published more than 200 papers in top-tier journals including Journalism & Communication, Chinese Journal of Journalism & Communication, Modern Communication, Social Science Front, Zhejiang Social Science, Contemporary Communication, and China Publishing Journal, many of which have been reproduced in full by Abstracts of New China and China Social Science Excellence, and they have also published 18 monographs in total.
