01 Program Introduction
The Department of History, Ningbo University traces its origin to the Department of Political Science and History, Ningbo Normal University, established in 1982. In 1994, the undergraduate program in History Education was introduced, initially admitting students from within Zhejiang Province. After being merged into Ningbo University in 1997, the program expanded its admissions to non-Normal Education nationwide, which was included in the first batch of national undergraduate admissions. In 2005 and 2012, it was approved as the provincial-level key construction majors in Zhejiang Province respectively. In 2022, it was selected in national first-class major construction sites. Today, the undergraduate program, History, continues to pursue development through systematic theoretical study and academic training, cultivates high-level talents with a thorough grounding and professional skill in historical research. It enables these practical and interdisciplinary talents to engage in practical work in national organs, cultural and educational undertakings, Journalism and Publishing, Museum and Archives, and various enterprises and institutions.

Graduates’employment fields include government departments and public institutions, such as Local Chronicles offices, Cultural and Historical offices, Party-History offices, Archives, Cultural Centers, Museums, Libraries, enterprises such as News, Publishing Art Creative Industry, as well as in secondary schools as history teachers.
03 Teaching Characteristic
The History Department in Ningbo University boasts a highly qualified faculty team with advanced degrees, high academic titles, and extensive teaching experiences. All faculty hold doctoral degree, 65.7 percent have senior professional titles, as well as 1 member from Provincial Office of Culture and Historical Research Institute, 5 members of Provincial 151 Talents Project, 2 members of young and middle-aged leading talents among Provincial universities.The Department offers three modules of Chinese History, World History and local Chronicles studies, among which Local Chronicles study is the only one available in China. The undergraduate program is supported by the Chinese History discipline, which offers a master’s academic degree program with five specialized fields: Ancient Chinese History, Modern Chinese History, Chinese Specialized History, Theory & History of Historiography, and Western Europe Area Studies. In 2021, master’s professional degree programs, Cultural Relics and Museums, set up successfully with the efforts of all faculty (it was renamed Master Professional Degree in Museology following adjustments by the Ministry of Education in 2023). In 2024, the doctoral program, Chinese History, was approved, fostering mutual promotion and development of both the major and the discipline. In addition, The department has launched cooperation programs with several renowned international universities, such as Stanford University (USA), Waseda University (Japan), University of Shizuoka (Japan) and Kyungpook National University (South Korea), etc, providing a excellent platform for further academic developing.
