01 Subject Briefing

Communication, as an integral part of School of Humanities and Media, Ningbo University, was formed by integrating two prior subjects - Journalism and Advertising in the context of new media communication, and now includes three directions: Convergent Media Journalism, Strategic Communication, and Visual Communication. It also has a Master's degree programme named Journalism & Communication. Communication aims to cultivate applied, interdisciplinary, and innovative communication professionals who adhere to Marxist journalism view, maintain a correct political stance, possess good humanistic literacy, solid theoretical knowledge in fields including communication, journalism, advertising, marketing, sociology, and psychology, and keen awareness of new media communication, strong planning and creative operation capabilities, and showcase competency in working in government agencies, enterprises, media institutions, and other organizations in areas such as news communication, political communication, advertising, branding, visual communication, and public relations.

News media, new media, advertising agencies, public relations agencies, film and television companies, government departments, enterprises, institutions, cultural and creative industries, and other relevant organizations.

03 Features of Cultivation

After more than two decades of development, the department has achieved sustained and stable development in the construction of disciplines and specialties, with a group of young and middle-aged backbone teachers with high academic qualifications and practical skills. It has won numerous national social science fund projects and other research projects at all levels, published numerous professional papers, and many academic monographs. The teaching reform has achieved remarkable results, with the construction of national exemplary courses and provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. The teaching facilities are advanced, the talent cultivation concept is in line with the times, and a large number of qualified news and communication talents have been trained and sent to society. The jointly-built School of Journalism by the Publicity Department of Ningbo Municipal Committee and Ningbo University has played a powerful role in promoting the development of journalism and advertising, realizing the sharing of various resources such as teachers, talent, technology, and platforms, and achieving win-win results. This has accumulated good practical experience for jointly building a local news and communication education brand through industrial and educational cooperation.
