01 Professional Introduction
Established in 1956, formerly known as the Chinese Language and Literature Education major at Ningbo Normal College, it was merged into Ningbo University in 1996. In 2007, it was selected as a key construction major in Ningbo City. In 2019, it was selected as a provincial-level first-class undergraduate construction major. In 2021, it was selected as a national level first-class undergraduate construction major. In September 2022, it passed the certification of Zhejiang Province's second level teacher training major. Based in Zhejiang and facing the needs of national socio-economic and cultural development, we aim to cultivate educators with solid professional knowledge, profound humanistic literacy, outstanding teaching ability, and forward-looking innovative consciousness who can conduct Chinese language and literature teaching and research in primary and secondary schools, as well as secondary vocational and technical schools, or composite specialized talents engaged in related work in research institutions, party and government agencies, enterprises and institutions.
02 Student Employment Field
Graduates of this major mainly work as full-time Chinese language teachers and teaching managers in middle schools across the country. They can also work in cultural, propaganda, publishing, advertising and media institutions, administrative enterprises and institutions related to the use of Chinese language and characters. With the increasing status of teachers in China in recent years, there is a high demand for professionals in this field, and the employment situation is good. It has great professional prospects in the new era of education development.
03 Cultivate distinctive features
This major has a rich humanistic accumulation and has a team of highly educated, highly professional, and high-level teachers, with 70% holding senior professional titles and nearly 90% holding doctoral degrees. There is one staff member at the provincial cultural and historical museum, one high-level top-notch talent at the provincial university level, four talents under the provincial "151 Talent Project", and five leaders in the youth science department at the provincial university level. According to the latest ranking of Qiu Junping University in 2024, this major has jumped from the top 22.81% in 2018 to 11.79% in 2024 among more than 610 Chinese language and literature majors in China, with a professional level of four-star. Chinese language and literature have the authority to confer master's degrees in first level disciplines, as well as master's degree programs in Chinese international education, forming a talent cultivation system that connects undergraduate and graduate programs. It has the development advantage of mutual support and reinforcement between disciplines and majors, providing a good platform for students to further their studies. Since 2020, the Chinese Department has obtained 5 first-class courses at or above the provincial level, initiated 2 new form textbook projects at or above the provincial level, published 2 textbooks, and been approved for 2 provincial and ministerial level teaching and research projects.
This major attaches great importance to teacher training skills. The 2020 students won the second and third prizes in the 14th Zhejiang Normal Student Teaching Skills Competition, and Pan Yali won the first prize in the 8th College Student Chinese Classic Recitation Competition. The 2022 students won two second prizes in the 15th Zhejiang Normal Student Teaching Skills Competition. The 2023 students won 1 first prize and 2 third prizes in the 16th Zhejiang Normal Student Teaching Skills Competition. Zhang Yunmeng and Chen Keyi, students of the 2024 cohort, won the Excellence Award in the 17th Teacher Training Skills Competition of Zhejiang Province's Higher Education Institutions. Zhang Yunmeng, a student of the 2024 cohort, won the first prize in the "River of Poetry" Poetry Explanation Competition of the 11th Zhejiang Province College Chinese Classic Recitation and Writing Competition.
