The School of Humanities and Communication of Ningbo University (NBU)is comprised of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, the Department of History, the Department of Journalism and Communication, and the Department of International Chinese Education.

The school currently has 119 faculty members, including 100 full-time teachers, among whom there are 22 professors and 36 associate professors. It boasts 8 second and third-tier candidates of Zhejiang Province's "New Century 151 Talent Project," 1 high-level leading talent in Zhejiang Province's Higher Education Leading Talent Training Program, 5 middle-aged and young academic leaders in Zhejiang Province, and 2 members of the Zhejiang Provincial Literature and History Research Institute. Additionally, there are 4 third-tier leading and top-notch talents in Ningbo, 4 Bao Yugang leading scholars, and 1 Bao Yugang young scholar at Ningbo University (data as of July 2024).

The school offers undergraduate programs in Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese language and literature for teacher-training, History and Communication. The Chinese Language and Literature, and History programs have been selected as national first-class undergraduate programs.

The school has two first-level master's degree programs in Chinese Language and Literature, and Chinese History, and professional master's degree programs in Journalism and Communication, International Chinese Education, and Museology.

The school hosts one key research base of philosophy and social sciences in Zhejiang Province (East Zhejiang Culture Research Institute) and one social science research base in Ningbo (East Zhejiang Historical Culture Research Base). It also has eight university-level research institutions: Ningbo Bang Research Center, Dialect and Culture Research Center, Public History Research Center, Modern Communication Research Institute, Modern Poetics Research Center, Buddhist Culture Research Center, and Chinese Classical Studies Institute,Research Center for folklore culture and the protection of non-legacy.

In November 2014, the School of Journalism and Communication at Ningbo University was established through a tripartite collaboration between the Ningbo Municipal Party Committee Propaganda Department, Ningbo Education Bureau, and Ningbo University. It is based on the School of Humanities and Media and aims to innovate the journalism education model, promote interaction between academia and the industry, integrate teaching and research, and combine theory with practice. The goal is to jointly cultivate journalism talents with correct positions, a sense of people, and a sense of responsibility.

The school's mission is to inherit and disseminate knowledge and foster innovation and entrepreneurship. With over 60 years of educational history, it has achieved remarkable results in talent cultivation, scientific research, and local services. In recent years, it has developed rapidly, with promising prospects for further achievements.
